“I would agree with descriptions of birth as intense and not really painful so that was a relief!”

Hi Kat

Not sure if you remember me but apologies for the lateness of this, been pretty busy lately with baby and moving to Bristol!

Just a quick note to say thanks so much for all your support on the course, the techniques really helped both me and Chris prepare for the birth and are still helping!

Sebastian was born 3 weeks early on the 24 Feb weighing 8lbs exactly, we had a great birth, really quick, my waters broke at 2pm with no contractions and he arrived at 7pm whilst I was listening to the affirmations in the waterbirth pool in the MLU at UCLH. I would agree with descriptions of birth as intense and not really painful so that was a relief!

I even did the “hide in a toilet” thing that we discussed in the classes as when we arrived at hospital they wouldn’t do the admissions check because I seemed too calm (I did explain we did hypnobirthing) and it was only 3 hours after my waters had broken (by the time they did check I was 4cm dilated and getting cross).

It was all pretty straightforward with no stitches needed and despite losing a litre of blood I was fine, unfortunately Sebastian breathed in a little pool water and got whisked away to be resuscitated etc and spent his first night in an incubator in the NICU but thanks to all the excellent staff at UCH he is fine now and we were discharged after 7 days.

He’s a happy chilled baby (eats well, weighs over 16lbs now and sleeps through the night!) and we are totally besotted with him,

I have been singing your and hynobirthing praises all over the place! If you are ever in Bristol let us know and can introduce you to Sebastian. Thanks again! Tara
