For those who are unable to make a whole course this one off morning session is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the approach and tools of hypnobirthing. 

You will want to have read my book “Why Hypnobirthing Matters” (included and sent to you as soon as you book), and I will send you some hypnosis audio recordings and birth films upfront for you to have engaged with before we meet online so we can make best use of our time together.

We will discuss affirmations, how and why they work and what yours might be, I’ll have you think about what feelings and qualities you want to strengthen within and how we can anchor that to all of your senses for birth. We will explore mindfulness of body and breathwork for birth (and life), massage for quick endorphin release and deeper touch for intense surges.

Please note this is not the same as a full 12 hour hypnobirthing course (which is a holistic total approach to antenatal preparation and parenting) but I will supply you with the journal I give to those doing the course so you can see how the approach can be applied in these areas.

The total cost for you and your partner for this workshop and all materials, plus my ongoing support is £150.

“We had the most extraordinary birth!!! After dinner on the Saturday night we sat down to watch a movie and at some point I realised I was having a surge every 10 minutes or so. Around 11pm I told M and we went to bed. I was convinced I’d sleep and wake up and the surges would have stopped or slowed down. 

At midnight my waters released and I was still having surges so we listened to your hypnobirthing tracks and kept breathing through it. Around 3am we called the hospital to give them a heads up that we’d be probably be coming in in a few hours time. The midwife told us we should go in immediately because it’s “not normal” for my waters to release so early and so they should check me and the baby for signs of infection. I felt myself tense up and surges stopped for the entire 15 minute phone call (!!!!!!!). We told her that we were going to stay at home, see how things progressed and call them back in a few hours - and she cheerily responded that that was fine. Surges kicked back in again after that (phew!) and we kept listening to the relaxation tracks while things ramped up. 

I think we were at about 2 in 10 for a few hours here but then things suddenly accelerated to 3 in 10 and then rolling surges. I was still convinced I had hours to go. By the time we realised it was time to go to the hospital, we quickly realised I wouldn’t make the 30 minute journey. About 15 minutes later I was on my knees, leaning over a birthing ball on my bedroom floor convinced that I just needed to do a poo and then I’d feel better - when C popped out. 

We definitely had that “pause” moment, in shock and in awe looking at each other and looking at the baby amazed at what my body had just done and at how we birthed the baby together, calmly and beautifully at home. A paramedic arrived a few minutes later, waited while the placenta came, and helped get us into bed. I had the most incredible glass of orange juice of my life. The rest of the day was just a total high. I couldn’t believe what we had done and that we had our absolute dream birth”

I trained in the Traditional Chinese Medicine approach to aromatherapy 16 years ago and this provides a foundation when creating blends for our Embracing Change retreats. 
According to this traditional system, each season presents characteristic challenges to our health and psycho-spiritual well-being.

Spring is the season of pushing, rising, expanding energy and exuberant new growth, but it’s equally important to avoid overdoing it, especially in the emergence of Spring. The weather is unstable and the winds and temperature fluctuations demand care in all levels of body, mind and spirit.

The element associated with Spring is Wood and the organs the Liver and gallbladder. Common physical symptoms of disharmony include muscular and digestive problems, menstrual issues, headaches, sleep disturbance, allergies and skin problems.

The core emotion associated with the Wood element is anger and the aspect of Spirit is the Hun  representing that part of the soul that connects us to the collective unconscious. It governs dreams and visions and imbues us with a sense of purpose and “direction” in life. In Spring, we may be more vulnerable to anger and irritability and feeling that we lack purpose, especially when we’ve had a year of lockdowns and social restrictions inhibiting the way we work and live. 

Each element is associated with specific herbs and essential oils that are believed to help maintain and restore balance. For our upcoming Emerging Into Spring retreat on the 27th, I am creating an aromatherapy blend specifically designed to support us mind, body and soul.

In our afternoon together we will use hypnosis to nurture your dreams and visions and connect with your purpose in life. We’ll move together with gentle yoga to help you avoid or release blockages and keep your body moving, supple and flexible. Gong meditation aids stress reduction by breaking up emotional blockages within the body and eases you into a state of meditation. 

Just as it is in the rest of nature, Spring is our time for resurrection and rebirth at all levels of body, mind, and spirit – come join us and together we will allow the awakening in nature to inspire us to make the most of it.

It can be challenging. We might prefer to turn away, to push away, to numb, to repress... I’ve done them all. For years. 

Mindfulness taught me how to turn towards discomfort. How to be with painful emotions. In turn, joy and beauty came flooding through in technicolour too 🌈 

The invitation is now open for those interested in developing a mindfulness practice.

In these changed times when so many of us are working online are you making space for transitions?

Back in the day when we’d travel to a meeting, class or event our mind and body had time to shift states from what went before. It was a buffer that helped segment the day. Time, whether used consciously or not, to reflect on what had been and what’s to come. 
A time to prepare.

When we’re staying in the same place and travelling between meets, classes and events on the screen it’s all too easy to bring the same mindset to each. 
🌀
Without space to breathe, to pause, to decompress, it’s easy to become overwhelmed. 
🌀
We’re here to help you create space - space for ‘being’ rather than ‘doing’ space in which you can feel nourished and connected.

With our embracing change retreats we very much encourage retreatrants to establish a comfy, quiet place for themselves to literally retreat to. 

A sacred space, so you can begin that shift from distractions outwards to journey inwards.

You can begin right now by making space between ‘doings’, space for ‘being’.

The wheel of the year continues to turn and Nature goes about her way at her own pace. 

This morning at 7am I was struck by the view outside my bedroom window, the waning moon in the indigo sky .... and the burnt ochre of an emerging sunrise. 

Simultaneously. Stunning. 

A reminder of the glimmers of the increasing light.

I am grateful for the slow emergence of the lighter months. This time between imbolc and spring equinox is a grace period. 

I find myself savouring the flavour of winter, not ready yet to give up early nights,!deep rest and quiet. I’ve developed an eye infection this week (and look like Rocky Balboa 😳), a sure cue from my body to pull back from rushing into busy-ness.

Following Nature’s pacing is echoed in our Embracing Change retreats which serve as an anchor - a time to honour, slow down and reflect on where you are in your life and where you are going, safe in circle.

We begin each gathering with a settling in and an arriving, using the plant medicine of cacao and a guided meditiation to set the tone. You will have received an email with some questions to reflect on and share, if felt called to. We then move and practice some really soothing yoga asana, which is then followed by a deeply nourishing, live gong bath. It is magic!

You will also receive a retreat package, with lovingly made goodies to enhance the immersive experience and create ceremony.

We talked about hardwiring happiness in my MBCT group on Monday night.

@rickhansonphd has 2 steps to enable this.

1) have an experience
2) enjoy it

With our human brains seemingly evolved for survival rather than happiness, it can take some training for happiness to be integrated and remembered. 

There’s great value in learning to deliberately notice and appreciate what’s uplifting and nourishing in your life. 

It could be through gratitude journaling, noticing your BIFs (Beautiful, Interesting + Funny things you encounter in your day), breathing it in, taking a mental snapshot, noticing how happiness FEELS in your mind and body. 

However you may do it. 
Notice a pleasurable experience and enjoy it 😃❤️

Boost your immuni-tea! ☕💪 I'm making batches of this tea every other day for my mother and I - it's amazing!

When Yogi Bhajan was an officer in the Indian army, he gave his men Yogi Tea to keep them healthy. During a particularly bad outbreak of the flu, as entire platoons got sick, Yogi Bhajan had his men drink Yogi Tea instead of water.
Not one man under his command got sick. 

Here is the original recipe given by Yogi Bhajan:* 
In a large pot, bring 2.8 litres of water to a boil. Then add:

20 whole cloves

20 whole green cardamom pods (optional: gently crush them under a rolling pin or with a mortar and pestle to open them up)

20 whole black peppercorns

5 sticks of cinnamon

A few slices of fresh ginger

Continue simmering for at least 20 minutes (I give it a good hour) and then add ¼ tsp of a mild black tea (Golden Assam is recommended, I throw in an Assam tea bag). After another minute or two, add ½ pint of milk per pint of remaining liquid. The original recipe calls for cow's milk but any type of milk is fine – cow, goat, almond, soy, hemp, etc. There is no need to measure the milk, just eyeball it. Or omit it, I now drink it black.

Optional: add honey or other sweetener to taste.

Each of the ingredients in Yogi Tea has healing properties. The black pepper is a blood purifier and aids in digestion. Cardamom is good for the colon and can help relieve depression. Cloves strengthen the immune and nervous systems. Cinnamon is antibacterial, loaded with antioxidants and is good for the bones. Ginger root is great for the nervous system and is energizing. The black tea in Yogi Tea helps the ingredients amalgamate and makes it more potent as a healing agent. 
Feel free to adjust the ingredients to your personal taste.  Over time, my own recipe has evolved to include double the spices, and no milk. Experiment!

The black tea in Yogi Tea helps the ingredients amalgamate and makes it more potent as a healing agent.
Feel free to adjust the ingredients to your personal taste. Over time, my own recipe has evolved to include double the spices, and no milk. Experiment!

Even though we’re deep in winter there are glimpses of change.

The days are stretching, the darkness coming ever so slightly later, and these catkins on the twisted hazel tree in my garden are all reminders that Spring will be making her way to us... all in good time...

To embrace the seasonal changes @yolande___deviyoga and I host afternoon retreats to honour the wheel of the year and tune into the energy of the coming season.

Emerging into Spring, our next seasonal retreat is Saturday February 27th.

We open with ceremonial cacao and meditation to settle into a sacred space. We open a sharing circle to honour where we’re at and will explore transitions and how we can embrace change. We will incorporate movement for an embodied practice and then settle into deep healing and relaxation with a live sound bath.

To enhance the immersive experience of this afternoon a retreat box will be posted out to you beforehand.

This retreat is open to all and there are limited spaces to retain the sacred feeling of circle.

INTENTION + ATTITUDE

I have made a commitment to myself to practice yoga and meditation every morning, having “fallen off the wagon” towards the end of last year.

This morning I caught myself approaching my mat with a “get this out of the way “feel. Already a busy-ness and desire to get on to the next thing.

The intention to do it was there, but the attitude wasn’t particularly mindful. SO instead I took a moment to light a candle and some incense. I ensured I was warm enough and arranged my mat and cushion, just so… 

These small gestures reminded me I am doing this as an act of self love and care. Making time for myself, just for myself. My experience of my practice was transformed.

So yes, there’s discipline involved in a daily practice and that DOES sometimes involve a JUST DO IT reminder to yourself. But remember, the attitude with which you do something matters just as much and has the potential to change your experience…
