Hello Kat!

Just to let you know that we moved 2 weeks ago and Baby Delaney part 2 arrived on Saturday midday. The midwives were very relaxed about arranging the home birth for us.

I started having surges at about 2am but infrequent and managed to get back to sleep. Surges became a bit more frequent by 5am so got up and pottered around! Still sat watching box sets on the sofa at 9am, but surges still about 10mins apart and manageable. Called the midwives, and decided they didn’t need to come yet. Things intensified a little by 11am and surges 4/5 mins apart, called them again and they decided they would pop round in about 40mins.

Laid down in the sofa and relaxed, breathing through the surges. Richard started filling the pool……..

It got to about 2cms of water when I had an almighty surge and waters broke. I then realised that things had suddenly accelerated into the second stage and the baby was coming!

I shouted out to Richard to throw some towels and plastic down on the floor, got into kneeling and experienced about 6 huge intense surges and she was out! It was very primal! I scooped her up off the floor and she was perfect!

The midwives arrived about 15 mins later!  I think I secretly didn’t want them there, and now after experiencing the intensity of it, it was lovely that it was just Richard and I, totally uninhibited. We also had some lovely time alone with our new baby!

She is 9lb 2oz, very dark haired, but looks like her big sis! Everyone very chuffed. Amazingly no tearing. Didn’t have to go into hospital- job done!

Unfortunately, despite keeping the cord attached and doing all the right things, placenta still wasn’t out after an hour so I did end up having the injection but then it came out and all well!

Once again hypnobirthing helped me trust my own body and instincts and gave me the confidence to go with the flow! I am overawed at the intensity of the birthing experience and how different this was from my last birth and also pretty chuffed with our free birthing experience!
