Life keeps speeding up.

We eat on the run. We communicate on the move. When we live a world of instant gratification, of fast uploading images, posts and tweets constantly pulling our attention we have to admit that if we are not careful we might lose the ability to be with ourselves and with what is.

We’re always thinking about the next thing… when were you last in the shower but really in a meeting scheduled for later that day, rehearsing what you’re going to say?

I wrote in my blog and newsletter recently about how any activity can become a mindful activity. Whether it’s colouring in mandalas, DIY, walking or breathing. Slowing down and really being present to where you are and what you’re doing can create a whole new experience and bring you out of your thinking mind.

Slooooow it down…
Do one thing at a time.
Give it all of your attention.

Choose one of your daily activities and today have it be a mindful activity.

It could be cleaning your teeth, washing the dishes, having a shower, making a cup of tea, going for a walk. A simple act but bring all of yourself to it. Become aware of the colours, the textures, the smell, the feel, the sound of everything. Be curious, as if you were seeing and doing this for the very first time – a beginners awareness.

Have you seen the Richard Curtis film ‘About Time’? It’s a meditation on mindfulness and how being present to the small things in life can make a difference.

Perhaps see if you can do one mindful activity every day. Maybe even bring the mantra “I take my time” into the whole of your day and see if it makes a difference.

As John Lennon said: “life is what happens to you when you’re busy making other plans”….
