Autumn Equinox Meditation



Even though it happens year after year, the transition between summer and autumn has felt unusual this year… We still have the last of the late summer sun here in London this week. Almost as if on a switch, one day late in the summer you feel it – I’m anticipating it next week… A subtle crispness in and a smokey aroma on the air; I start looking around for golden, red leaves on the trees. They’re not there yet but you can feel the transition as the wheel of the year turns once more.

I love autumn, the colours, the light, the wrapping up and cosying on in getting ready for winter, the trees teaching us how easy it is to let go…..

The Autumnal equinox (Spring for those in the Southern hemisphere) arrives on Monday 23rd September. “Equinox” comes from the Latin words “equi” meaning “equal” and “nox” meaning “night.” This implies that there will be equal amounts of daylight and darkness, and whilst it’s not exactly the case, celebrating the equinox gives us a chance to pause before the new season is upon us.

We can’t stop the seasons from turning. We can’t stop the flow and ebb that happens in every aspect of life. Through autumn, the Earth demonstrates the beauty of surrender. Both ebb and flow are necessary in this world, and indeed each fuels the other. Rest gives us energy to grow; growth creates a desire for rest.

At this equinox, it is a perfect time to examine how balance is playing out in your life and I’ve created a hypnosis recording which can be used as a meditation to celebrate and utilise this festival in your own life. I hope you enjoy.
