The Land is Calling : The Awakening

The Land is Calling: The Awakening is a four day retreat at Nanpantan Hall - an invitation to return to a place and state of wonder, held in communion with an ancient, sacred landscape in the Heart of England.

In May the Earth's energy is shifting. At this mid-point between Spring equinox and Summer solstice, new life is returning. We are at the onset of the growing season where the earth is cloaked in green. It is a time of sunshine and rain. The earth’s energies are at their most active, swelling and bursting, rising up with fresh new growth.

Spring energy invites us to ask:

What new growth do we want to nourish in ourselves?  This is a time to open to our sweet longings, dreams and visions; to return to the innocent belief that anything is possible.

Who do we want to be, what do we long to express and embody, what gives us simple pleasure and lights the fire in our hearts?

Weaving the subtle medicines of three highly experienced practitioners, in unity with the land, this four day retreat offers a fertile and positive environment in which to grow the seeds of yourself. We will cast off the remnants of Winter's darkness and celebrate the light with movement and rest and subtle yet powerful practices to reawaken the mind, body and Spirit.

Step out of the everyday and immerse yourself in the beauty of an ancient woodland.

Engage in practices and living ceremony to ground, energise and inspire you - mind, body and soul.

Find your own flow and rhythm. . .

Experience spaciousness . . .

Heighten your senses, reconnect to your body, and tune in to the natural world.

Slip out of time with us and experience the alchemy of Spring awakening around and within you.

Thursday 15th - Sunday 18th May, 2025

  • Have silence if you need it
  • Choose when you would like solitude and when you want to participate in community

Limited private treatments of Acupuncture, Craniosacral Therapy and Integral Sound Healing are available to be pre-booked with additional payment.

"What can I say, you're all amazing. I love how much you know, love and support each other, and how much you all extended that to each and every one of us as well. I felt like I knew the least people in the group as I arrived, but all of you made me feel extremely welcome immediately."

Dr Carolyn Eddleston worked within the NHS as a GP then 22 years ago, after completing a 3 year full-time Diploma in Acupuncture, funded and founded her own Traditional Chinese Medicine clinic in rural Leicestershire.

Her position as Principal and Medical Director bridges these two worlds and gives her a greater understanding of health and illness, and our connection as humans with the natural world and the cycles of the seasons.

Carolyn works intuitively, with the added reassurance of her medical knowledge and invites transformation from the inside out. She holds a sacred space for you to express fully, settle your nervous system, and connect with your innate healing wisdom and capacity as your illness story changes to one of hope and vitality.

"Your attention to detail to ensure a good time was had by all was first class. From carrying my bag to my room, lighting evening fires in the drawing room, constantly ensuring our comfort during each activity, not to mention the depth of planning that went into the event surpassed all expectations."

Nanpantan Hall

Nanpantan Hall is a historical Victorian country house set in sixteen acres of picturesque countryside amongst ancient, 700-million-year old volcanic rock outcrops in the heart of Charnwood National Forest in Leicestershire.

Our retreat will have exclusive use of this spectacular estate and you are free to explore Nanpantan’s extended property and delightful woodlands. There are forested and meadow walks, a hidden dell ideal for quiet contemplation, a well kept garden, and means of entry to public footpaths for those wishing to explore the local ancient landscape. A garden terrace along the back of the house overlooks the lawns and far reaching picturesque views of the Leicestershire countryside. A permanent labyrinth in the grounds invites meditative reflection.

The Hall itself features a variety of beautiful, quiet gathering rooms, log fires, and a bright and spacious art room, with inspirational art throughout.

Family owned since being built in the 1870's, Nanpantan Hall was donated to the School of Philosophy in 1986 and is steeped in meditative silence that has been generated by groups from many different traditions.

"Such a peaceful and welcoming space. Every attention to detail from walking in through the front door. The gifts just kept coming: a very comfortable room, exquisite views, warm and cosy, a never ending flow of delightful food with no chance of going hungry."

Our spacious retreat schedule includes...

We are dreaming into the details of the schedule for The Awakening and will publish plans here when finalised.

Our September 2024 retreat included sunrise Qi Gong, evening sound bath by the fire, Power of the Yin workshop, creative art session with charcoal drawing and clay sculpture, a drum circle by the fire-pit, Sexual Soul Salon, Feldenkrais, a visit with and brushing of resident Tamworth pigs Harry and Melanie, mindful walks, labyrinth walking meditation and more.

Whilst The Awakening in May 2025 will naturally be quite different as we tune into the Spring energies of the land, you can feel assured that we will continue to offer a variety of skills and practices that match the season. We can tell you that, in response to requests, Acu-Gong will feature this year.

All group events and sessions are optional. You are invited to choose when you would like solitude and when you want to participate in community.

Limited private treatments of Acupuncture, Craniosacral Therapy and Integral Sound Healing are available to be pre-booked with additional payment.

"I became more willing to share my thoughts and feelings as the facilitators were non judgemental and supportive. The facilitators gave members of the group time to reflect and not feel pressured to respond. It was uplifting to see how group members supported each other and there was a lot of laughter to release any tension."

"I've never tried Qigong before, so it was a great introduction to it. And practicing in the early light felt very uplifting. I sensed Carolyn's passion for it and she explained it really clearly which was very helpful for a complete beginner." about the sunrise QiGong

"Whilst this was a challenging session for me, it was also very thought provoking and of all the sessions, this is the one I have thought about the most since leaving the retreat. I think I found out quite a lot about myself. Daven's explanation and guided meditations were revelatory" about the Sexual Soul Salon

"This was really magical! Everything about the drum circle appealed to me. I thought Kat's guidance and words of wisdom really resonated and the (almost) full moon setting and the fire made it very memorable" about the fire pit drum circle
